Draft Contents Page

Image
I decided that I was going to do a draft contents page as doing the draft front cover helped me decide what I want my final covers to look like. I also believe that this has done the same and has allowed me to pick out what I think looks good and what I think doesn't look as good. The things that I like about this contents page- I love how the colour of the page number has a colour from the photo, I think this works really well with each other and makes them stand out and look really good against the photos. I also really like how I have changed the sizes of the boxes to make it seem more quirky and have more style- I think this incises the audience as because it isn't boring and makes people want to read it.  The font that I have used for my word "Contents" is in the same front of my magazine cover on the word that it says "Devon" I feel like it creates a continuous theme so that the audience feels as if its all matching and all within the sam...

Draft Magazine Cover.

Image
I decided that I needed to do a mock up from cover so that I am not going into doing my final piece without any practice. I really enjoyed making this as it made me decide that I wanted to make a Christmas edition for my magazine.   I am using these colours for my final piece because I think that they bring out the Christmas theme, as red, green and white is all Christmas tones and colours you would relate to the festive season. I took the images at Saltrum house and this is one of the images that I took.I changed the colours of the background to make them a little dimmer as they were very bright and they drowned out the writing too much. After doing this I felt much more confident to be able to produce a good standard of work for my final piece.

Draft Front Cover.

Image
I made this Draft front cover to try and get a feel for Photoshop again- I took inspiration from this magazine on down below and I can see that I need to improve some stuff as it does need improvement with changing the sub heading fonts but as a first go at doing this I think I did well. Some elements that I would improve are- The colour pallet, I do not think this would look good on the front of a magazine as I think the colours are too bright. As we can see the colours on the right are very cool toned. In my final magazine I would include more subheadings as the cover looks a little bear and would need to have more on the front to entice customers into buying it.  I would change the puff as well as I think it may be too big for a front cover- I would probably change the colour of it also.  Some elements that I like and would use in my final magazine- I really like my logo, I am going to keep this and use it or my final magazine. I also really like th...

Regulation Research.

Regulation research. from Lauren Crick on Vimeo .                                                                         I created this sped up video by using Coral, it is a video editing software that has many tools. I used the cut tool to be able to get rid of me talking in the beginning of the clip as it makes it look a lot more crisp going straight into the video. I also used the layer tool to put music over the top of the video, I did this to make the video less boring because if it was silent it would loose the interest of the audience. Before I filmed and made me video I printed out the Editors code of practice and picked out the bits that were important and related to my magazine that I am going to be producing. As I am not going to be putting in anything to do with finance or thin...

Theoretical Research

JEAN BAUDRILLARD Jean Baudrillard is a media theorist that looks at the narratives of a story and how a media text can imitate the style or content of another media text. Postmodernists have also argued that there is no originality in media texts; that the same ideas and techniques are re-hashed and re-used to create new meanings. He also looks at the way that one media text will reference another media text. These two magazines, that are both regional magazines, apply to Jean Baudrillards' theory of how media texts imitate others showing that there isn't a lot of originality in the media anymore. From looking at the two magazines above, you can see that they both have an animal on the cover with similar font and layout of text. Going down the page you can see that they also follow a color scheme and then have the addition of a white border at the bottom to split up the cover and show extra information. RICK ALTMAN Rick Altman is a media theorist that looks ...

Initial Response To Chosen Brief.

Image
I have selected to do my coursework this year on the brief that requires me to make a extract from a documentary which lasts 5 minutes. I have to create 2 other pieces along side my documentary and these can be; Radio Trailer for the documentary. Double-page spread from a listings magazine focused in the documentary. Newspaper Advertisement for the documentary. For my ancillary tasks I am going to do the double page spread from a listings magazine because I would like to be able to write about my project and give text because people may not fully understand the angle I am going for within my documentary. Also, I think that people would read about it and it would make them watch it. For the second ancillary task I am going to do the newspaper advertisement so I can put my photo-shop skills to use. I will create a film like poster which will need to catch peoples attention and make them want to watch the documentary- I want it to be informative about what the documentary i...

Researching Photoshop Skills.

Image
We have been looking at how to use the skills in which are needed to use Adobe Photoshop, we need these skills to be able to create movie poster and also magazine pages. For our first try at Photoshop we produced a film poster for a film of our choice. I decided to do a movie poster for 'Peaky Blinders' The tools I used within making this movie poster were the Polygonal Lasso Tool to cut out the background of the two main characters in the posters then I played around the the effects on the images and added a inner glow to give the characters better edges as my edges around them were not perfect.  The other tool I used a lot was the tool that allowed me to move everything around which was the button which said 'Show Transformation Controls' it allows me to move all the images and text anywhere on the page where I would like. This allowed me to layer things such as put the text over the images.  As I had no previous experience with Photoshop I found a...
